Based on your experience this semetser, if you could give
a note of advice to yourself at the beginning of the course, what
would you write?
==================================================
Start stuff early and put basically any question on Piazza--if you're
struggling, someone else probably has the same question.
==================================================
Don't try to do a whole project or program all at once.
==================================================
<3
You got this!
Don't give up!
Hang on there LOL. You'll love it.
SPend more time on readings. Take notes.
<3 You got this
==================================================
do the readings carefully
==================================================
Pay more attention on exfams, they are an unfortunately big chunk
of your grade
==================================================
Spend less time on CSC 161 and spend more tine on major courses, although
CSC 161 is very fun.
==================================================
If you think you aren't sure how to interpret a question, or part
of an assignment, you aren't.
==================================================
Start everything early
==================================================
I would tell myself to really spend time on pointers.
==================================================
- Sign up early for office hours and always go to office hours if you
don't understand completely.
- You will struggle, but you will learn a lot. So don't give up.
==================================================
DO NOT PANIC [Email Jerod, he will reply, it will be
helpful, then if things fail, you can panic]
==================================================
Go to mentor sessions + office hours before material becomes
hard. Print all readings + write notes and questions on them. Start
homework the day it's released. Ask more questions. Finish all labs,
even if it means extra work outside class.
==================================================
I'm not too sure beyond the classic "start homework early, go to
office hours, etc." (which I wouldn't have listened to, mind you),
but, I guess, "It's never as bad as you think it is"
==================================================
Readings are important
Start work early, at least read the problem or do work until you get
stuck then take a break and think.
==================================================
Start all the homwork ASAP and sign up for office hours on weeks where
you have to do homework.
Study for exams as muich as possible because they're worth a lot
in your grade.
==================================================
Dear past me,
Even though you feel bad at CS, don't give up.
- Start proejcts the day you get them
- Quiz yourself as you're reading the textbook
- don't try to code past 9pm
- do projects during CS mentor hours
- use the gdb debugger (bt to backtrace)
- stop spending your dining dollars on mac & cheese the
mozz sticks are better
- say thank you to Jerod more (thank you, Jerod)
- future you
PS I hope thatt the parallel timeline that breaks off when you receieve
this letter is fun
==================================================
- Be prepared for what's coming!
- Do the readings before and after the class.
==================================================
There's going to be a lot of work. Be prepared to commit time to this
course.
==================================================
Start earlier on homework and go to lots of office hours.
==================================================
Ask questions.
This class is hard, and that's okay.
